Letter from the Editor – Fall 2026
August 2, 2026
Dear Readers,
This fall marks an important expansion for The Fifth Corner with the opening of The Fifth Corner Press.
We are currently reading submissions of novels, novellas, and short-story collections from writers internationally. Submissions remain open through September 30, but our work will continue well beyond the closing date: we will be reading carefully throughout the fall and into winter as we shape our first publishing list.
From this cycle, we expect to select only two or three titles for publication.
The Press grows from the same principles that guide the journal: selectivity, close editorial attention, and a belief that every element of a book should be considered with intention. Each selected manuscript will receive comprehensive editorial and production support, working with experienced editors and artists to develop the book from manuscript to finished edition, including its cover and visual identity.
Our books will be distributed internationally, with availability to independent and local booksellers as well as established bookstore chains. We want the work we publish not simply to exist as a finished book, but to have the opportunity to find its readers wherever they may be.
We are approaching our first list slowly and deliberately. Publishing fewer titles allows us to give each one the editorial attention, production care, and sustained support we believe a book deserves.
To the writers already entrusting us with their manuscripts: thank you. We look forward to spending the coming months reading them.
With appreciation,
Aliona Ciumac
